Biography
HeatWave began his independent professional career by opening for Juelz Santana in 2006 to a sold out crowd. He made a remarkably smooth transition from the studio to the stage and the crowd response was overwhelming. HeatWave has since gone on to open an hold his own for the likes of Ice Cube, WC, Classified, Akon, Rhianna, Damien & Stephen Marley (Haiti Music Festival), k-Os, The Game, Elephant Man, Sean Paul, Lupe Fiasco, Chamillionaire, Lloyd Banks, Devin The Dude, Fat Joe, Slum Village, Sean Kingston, Paul Wall & Mike Jones to name a few.
HeatWave is currently on the Killawatt Records roster which is owned and operated by pioneer hip hop group The Rascalz. With RED1 (Rascalz front man) as his primary mentor HeatWave is blessed with the support he needs to nourish his rapidly emerging talents. Over the past two years HeatWave has been fortunate enough to tour the world and as a result his music has become enriched while his passion and desire to succeed has increased tenfold. Killawatt Records has the leadership and resource capacity for success; HeatWave looks to utilize these assets while fans can look to new projects including a full length studio album currently in the works.
HeatWave’s debut mix tape was released October 2007. The music on Coming to America: Live from Rain Drop City established HeatWave as an imposing yet refreshing presence in not only the urban music genre, but the music industry as a whole. Tracks such as "Nice as Me", "Gangsta Love (Snippet)", "Ye Ain't Got Enuff Green" and the bonus track "Fly & Sexy" got national recognition. Each track on the mix tape is musically unique and all capture the powerful essence of HeatWave's passion, pain and euphoria during this recording process. Coming To America is a reflection of HeatWave at a point in time and each track exposes the listener to different aspects of his rich, complex personality and analysis. While the CD stays primarily within the hip hop/rap genre HeatWave manages to differentiate each track with an array of lyrical topics, moods and tempos. For HeatWave the mix tape was simply a stepping stone in his game plan. "I'm coming, America", HeatWave says chuckling, "No, I'm kidding, I really don't care about impressing the U.S.; I'm not trying to be a Canadian rapper who makes it big. I'm just trying to make it big, period. Hip hop is all about what hood you from and if you ain't from Marcy, Harlem or Compton then you're invisible to people. I'm trying to be the talent that doesn’t need a famous hood to be certified and I think I can do that based on the quality of my music."
His second mixed tape “Fresh Prince of the City-The Masses Vol. 1.” soon to be launched, has already demonstrated that Heatwave is destined for greatness. Tracks such as “the Masses”, “Legend”, “Paper Paper” and “My Demo ” are evidence that HeatWave’s sophistication, insight and mastery of linguistics are not to be taken lightly. Lyrics that seduce consciousness and introspection seem to flow through Heatwave with ease soothing the savage beast while fuelling his ambition.
When not recording Heatwave is headlining shows across the country, writing, working on his production label; signing producers, directors, song writers as well as artists, “I’m even working on a little acting! Heatweezie, I make my Cheese easy!” He says laughing. “I’m creating a new sound. I’m working with some really intelligent and creative people and we’ve created a new sound. That’s Crazy Man!”
A movement or the creation of a sound doesn’t just happen. It starts with a spark and it smoulders; stoke the embers with a little airtime and you’ve got a full blown fire. HeatWave has created such a fire and is getting media attention that spans the nation in recognition including the likes of www.Dubcnn.com, www.Abortmagazine.com
Heatwave is part of a large movement on the West Coast of Canada and the US called the “B.L.O.C.K.S.T.A.R.S.” -Black Leaders Overcoming Criticism with the Knowledge to Succeed Through All Restrictions. The movement consists of 300 plus members throughout Vancouver, Seattle and Los Angeles that use their size and talents to get involved in everything from music to charity. Heatwave describes his affiliation with the group by saying, “I’m Heatwave thru and thru but I rep S.T.A.R.S. everywhere I go. It’s just as much a part of me as this rap stuff”.
