The name “Jim Wells” was created by taking the name Jimontai Westley Lyles (otherwise known as Jimmy Wells), breaking it down and piecing parts of it together to form something new. Wells relates to this name because its creation mimics his involvement with music. Raised of Chicago since 1987, Wells has lived in nearly every section of Chicago, ranging from; The West side’s Notorious K-Town Area, all over the Eastside, and even attended elementary school up North where many different cultures collided. Moving over 20 times, it was hard for Wells to ever claim any territory, so he considered the entire Chi his home. He set out to be accepted everywhere and everywhere he went, he was welcomed. He was different from the other kids he grew up around “Some called me Jimmy Neutron in my high school years, I never claimed any set, and I just kept the loyalty of my friends. When I was young I fought all the time because I never wanted to join the gangs and people always targeted me for that. So I started carrying weapons, sticks turned into knives, and then their people start shooting, so….so did my people!” Says Wells. He admits to being involved in a great deal of dirt, but felt that he had more to offer than ignorance. Brian Westbrook of the Production Team “The Jones’” as well as a great up and coming Chi Town artist Trinity both state that Wells has a great voice, and Trinity says “People are going to want you just because of your charisma” He took that to heart and has temporarily broken away from his group to establish himself as a Artist. Currently Wells is undergoing the process of creating several hits for the public’s enjoyment. Many of these tracks will be produced by Jimshoes Entertainment’s The Jones’. He also plans to release a mix tape soon with many Chicago artist involved in the project. His most proud performance was held in Green Castle, Indiana at DePauw University. This taught him the essence of putting on a show, his flaws and strong points were very visible and it made him a better performer. Now he feels very confident and is ready to give his audience energetic and exciting performances in the near future. Wells finds himself writing every chance he gets, “The better the beat the easier the words come, the more complicated the beat, the better the song becomes” says Wells. He never says no to a track, he feels he can write to anything! “I listen to a track and immediately know what I must say to the audience…sometimes” laughs Wells “Then I do like my name and break down my life and all I have learned and piece it together to create a verse” says Wells. There is much Jim Wells has to offer to his era of music.
